The Ohio State fair is over, the mornings are cooler and THE KIDS ARE BACK IN SCHOOL……..Fall is just around the corner! Let’s recap August and see what September has in store for us.
Adoption Circle assisted 2 families in finalizing their adoptions in August and one family was placed with an adorable baby girl. While placements continue to be slow this year, they are steady. The birth parents that placed in August chose to work with Adoption Circle but also had a connection through a friend of a friend of the adoptive parents. FRIENDLY REMINDER: NETWORK It’s so important to let everyone know that you are looking to build your family through adoption. You never know if your hairdresser’s cousin’s boyfriend’s daughter might be considering an adoption plan for her unborn child.
ADOPTION CIRCLE’S PICNIC is September 13. We hope to see all of you there!! We are celebrating the opening of Adoption Circle in 1991 and so the theme this year is the 90’s. Come wearing your favorite 90’s gear. Think neon colors, grunge and blue jean overalls. Please RSVP to Carrie@adoptioncircle.org and bring a side dish/dessert to share. A reminder email with details will also be emailed again.
August 26 was Women’s Equality Day. Every year we take this opportunity to highlight the women who created Adoption Circle and those that keep the agency open! We all share the passion of family and supporting women in creating their family and offering their children the life they believe they deserve.
IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!!! School is back in session. As we all transition into new routines it’s important to consider how your child’s adoption may impact their learning experience. Children that were exposed to prenatal substance abuse often have challenges with learning. This article addresses this and offers 5 practical tips to establish healthy homework habits.
For those with littles that are just starting their academic journey we often will get asked if it’s important that the teacher be aware of a child’s adoption. The answer is a resounding YES!!! Especially with younger children. It’s essential that your child’s teacher is aware so that they can use positive adoption language and support your child if any conversations surrounding adoption occur in the classroom.
September is Hispanic Heritage month. What an ideal time to talk to your child about heritage and celebrate our differences. An adopted child’s heritage comes from their biological family, while their everyday lived culture comes from their adoptive family. Both should be acknowledged.

September 13th is Grandparents Day. As a parent to two children, I’m so grateful for all the love and support my children have received from their grandparents. At Adoption Circle we are very big advocates for openness in adoption. Some people mistake open adoption as a gift that is given to the biological family – but that is just the silver lining 😊 The real gift is the connection an adoptee has to their biological family. To know from where you came and why the adoption decision was made, and to know that information and to have it explained to you firsthand from the biological family is ADOPTION GOLD!!! If you are lucky enough to have a connection to your child’s biological grandparents, PLEASE consider acknowledging them and having your child draw them a picture, write a letter or trace your child’s hand print for them on this special day.
